Over the years I have collected quite a few amplifiers for my own use, each with their own tonal character, and continue to collect more. Combinations of valves, circuitry, integral effects, speakers and cabinets all have a bearing on the final sound produced, sometimes quite evocative of a specific era. Digital recreations of classic amps certainly get better all the time but how many can provide the organic feel of a real amplifier working at a level where all the factors act together? There is no doubt a great amp has almost magical qualities that a computer cannot recreate. That is why I have put this collection together.
My amplifiers are now available for rental by recording studios, producers and artistes in Ireland. On the following pages I have listed my current collection which I feel is unmatched in the current Irish hire market. As you can see, it covers most styles and fashions of modern popular music from the 1950s to the 21st Century. Not all of them are going to make you deaf if used in the average studio! In fact most are fairly low wattage and perform and sound better at moderate levels. I hope the list contains items of interest and that if you would like to hire a particular amp or wish to ask any questions, you will contact me by email or phone. At present amplifier rentals are ancillary to my main profession but, although based in the West, given sufficient notice I can easily serve the whole of the island. In the meantime I have added a bit more information and photos of the equipment, along with some of my guitars for decoration. (Ask nicely and they might be available too.) I look forward to hearing from you soon. Brian Kavanagh. |
